Maintaining a Baitcaster Reel and Keep it in Perfect Condition

Baitcasting reels have made fishing fun and easy. These are meant to improve your casting accuracy and efficiency. However, in order to maximize its effects, you should keep your reel in prime condition. It means cleaning your Blue Yonder reel after use, drying it, and storing it in a good place when not in use.

How can you keep your reel in great condition? Here are some maintenance tips that you can do with your baitcasting reel.

Prepare Your Cleaning Materials

You need to have hot/lukewarm water, a clean cloth, and the fluid you will use for cleaning. Oil or grease will do. If you use oil, choose an oil that is recommended for your baitcasting model. If you have a Blue Yonder reel, use a specific oil or grease for this reel. Do not use thick oil, like machine oil or WD-40 oil. If you will use grease for the internal parts of your reel, use a minimal amount.

For small parts, use tweezers. Use a toothbrush to remove dirt from its fiber parts. Be gentle when rubbing or brushing your reel parts to avoid making dents.

Hold Your Reel Properly During Disassembling and Reassembling

Remember to disassemble and reassemble your reel with the same hand. Hold it with your left and let the right hand do the cleaning. This way, you can easily put back the parts without missing anything.

Check its Bearings

The bearing of your reel is one of its important internal parts. It is the part responsible for the smooth movement of your reel when you are casting. Clean it with oil that is meant for small bearings. When you put it back on, check to ensure it spins. To clean it, use a toothpick or anything as thin as this to ensure that all sides are freed from dust.

Lastly, clean your reel with a clean cloth. If you have a Blue Yonder reel, dry it clean, and then store it in a place that your kids can’t reach.
