What is Multi Axis CNC Machining?

As manufacturing parts and products have become more complex and more precision to create properly, technological advances needed to occur in order for manufacturing to keep up with demand from various industries such as medicine, electronics, and aerospace, among others. Human labor could not fashion these tools, parts, and products to the degree of specificity required, not could it produce these parts in such rapid fashion to satisfy the demand of our fast-paced industries today. This is how multi axis CNC machining came into manufacturing; learn more about this type of machining below.

What Makes Multi Axis CNC Machining Different?

Multi axis CNC machining is different because this manufacturing process occurs when tools move in at least four directions; like other CNC machining, these tools create parts out of plastic, foam, metal, and other chosen materials by selectively cutting away parts of the material according to specifications fed into the computer program operating the machines. The process is usually done by laser cutting or by water jet cutting.

Advantages of This Machining

When using multi axis CNC machines, human labor is needed even less than it was with other CNC tools, as now, there is no need for a human to manually turn the material while the tools cut away from it. More complex parts can now be created, particularly parts have curved holes in them. These machines can readily and easily create optimal angles between the tool and the machining surface, thus increasing the length of the tool’s life. Additionally, the tool’s life is also extended because higher quality parts can be used because there is less chance for error due to the fact that the process is entirely computerized.
